Is he neutered?
I would get him checked by a vet just in case. Could be a UTI or something. I would also step him back in his potty training. Start crating again and put him on a good schedule. I would also ditch the wee pads. It’s confusing for a dog to be allowed to go indoors but not be allowed to go indoors. So move it all outdoors!

The vet can tell you if this is a bladder, urinary, kidney infection, or incontinence, and a med like Proin can help build the bladder.

He may have a UTI. Take him and some urine to the Vet to be tested. If he’s been doing fine up until now then this is a signal to you in big, bright, bold letters telling you there is a problem.

Could be a uti. Take him to the vet. Or, If he hasn’t been fixed yet, he’s reaching the age of maturity. You’ll want to get him fixed if he hasn’t been already as the problem is difficult to fix.

As others said, UTI. Get him off the wee pads though. In my opinion, wee pads should only be used in crates or little gated areas where you are keeping young non-housetrained puppies. Never saw the need to add an extra step to the doggie housebreaking training.

first, take a vet trip. rule out any infection, such as UTI that would cause this.
then- understand that part of your problem is those wee wee pads. they just tell the dog it’s ok to go in the house. your dog was never really properly housebroken. now he’s finding convenience in going wherever he is.
DO NOT allow the dog the opportunity to roam the house by himself. if you can catch him in the act, you can stop him. if he’s doing it behind your back, the habit will develop more, and he might never stop.
when you can’t directly supervise him, DO crate him or confine him to an area where he’s not likely to eliminate. this will teach him to hold it.
having wee wee pads doesn’t train a dog bladder control. this is something your little dog needs to learn. if possible, get rid of the pads, and properly housebreak him. he’ll be a better pet if he’s not eliminating in your home.

I’m new to the dog scene with my first puppy and she is about 10 months old, but I’ve learned a lot listening to other dog owners around my area.
I’ve heard several of them talk about a potty training lapse where some time around 2 years old the dog started going in the house again. They said it was a pain, but treated it as if they were a puppy and getting house trained for the first time and it was better in a couple of weeks.
Also, these dogs I’m mentioning were rescues… not from a breeder so I don’t know if that has anything to do with it.. Sorry I couldn’t be more help!

He is either marking because he has not been neutered or he could have a UTI. Either needs a vet.
