A dogs sense of smell is 1000 times better than ours. Maybe there was a dog that has soiled the basement in the past? The jumping, I just put my knee out every time my dog jumped. I don't bend down and I don't raise my hands. Use one verbal command, a strong "NO!" Simply hold a knee out and your dog will stop jumping. Best wishes! They are a hunting breed and it is part of their nature to be that way. Hopefully she will outgrow it.
