House Training Pup- Please Help?

I have a 2 1/2 month old cockapoo. I have had him for a week now. What is the best way to house train? At night, he sleeps in his cage. Surprisingly, he has NEVER went to the bathroom in his cage.
But throughout the day, he will go to the bathroom throughout my place. When it happens I generally say “no” firmly and then usually will take him out right away.
Is that the best way to go about it? Thanks.

I have a 6 month old boston terrior/ pug that I had trouble training . What finally worked after just a couple of days was I hung a bell from the doorknob of the door we used to take her out. Each time we took her outside we would take her paw and ring the bell with it and say “lets go potty”. Within a couple of days she was ringing the bell on her own. She rings it and sits by the door and watis for us. It works when we go over to relatives also. We just bring the bell with us. Your puppy is still young so just be patient. Good Luck.
Dogs never go where they eat or sleep. You have to catch your pet in action then say no. If you see the damage then say no the dog will think you are yelling or talking to him -
catch him in the act let him not finish then take him out.
You might also want to try wee wee pads .

No, he thinks he’s in trouble for going to the bathroom…. he doesnt know he went in the wrong spot.
Take him out immediately after waking, playing, eating…. and at least once every hour or two.
Dogs dont use the bathroom in their cage b/c that is their safe place.
You need to be more attuned to when you pup needs to go out. and get him there first. Take him out 20 minutes ofter her eats or drinks and when ever he wakes up from a nap.
If you are not going to be right around – then crate him
He will try his hardest to keep his crate clean because his mother taught him to keep his “den” clean.
If he catch him starting to go in the house pick him up quick and carry him outside
when ever he goes out side have a happy party. Praise and give special attention.
He’s still young. You’ll need to take him out every 5-10 mintues at best. Everytime he plays really hard, take him out directly after. Puppy’s have small bladders, and it doesn’t take much for them to have to go again.
When I was begining to house break my 9 week old puppy, I definitely found myself taking her out every 5-10 mintues. When they get older you won’t have to do that anymore. My puppy is now 7 months old… and no more accidents in the hosue
Glad to hear you’re crate training at night. It’ll be helpful for you in the long run.
Just be sure to take your puppy to the same potty spot everytime, so he can catch on quicker. And when he starts to go, say “go potty” [or something to the effect of]. My puppy now responds to “lets go potty” and she’ll run to the door.

Yes you are doing right. It way to early though for him to get the hang of it. It takes weeks if not longer. You will start to be able to read his body language right before he has an accident in the house. If you cannot watch him for some reason keep him crated it will be much better you and your carpet!
blimey how u got him to sleep in his crate il never no..wots the secret hehe, my now 4 and a half month old only lasted one nite in his crate,,noise was unbearable anyway..back to the question, i take him out every 10 inutes if need be, and when he ws smaller i did the same and so far so good..9 times outta 10 he will ask to go, and he lasts thru the nite till late morning now, i put him out when he wakes after hes had a play when hes had a drink and inbetween his walks, if circumstances allow then take him every 10 minutes the more you do it the more he will learn to do what he has to outside , it is time consuming but the rewards are great when you aint gotta worry bout stepping in summit you shouldnt lol..your doing great so far keep it u just try more often(that wasnt meant to sound out of order …like your not doing good…you are doing all the right things so dont take it the wrong way xx
The best way to housetrain your puppy is to put him on a predictable schedule. You will need to crate him at night. First thing in the morning, take him outside to go potty. Then, bring him in and play a little. Then feed him. Then take him back outside. After you bring him inside and play with him awhile, crate him if you cannot watch his every move. If you can watch him, try to take him out every few hours until he gets the idea that he has to go outside. You don’t want to give him a chance to go inside the house. Also, make sure you feed him at the same time every day so that he goes at the same time. It also worked for me to give our dog a treat and gently praise him after he went potty outside. If they do go potty in the house, clean it with a product that neutralizes the odor, or they’ll return to the spot to go again. A good walk after they eat helps to empty everything out too!
