YOU become the alpha and demand they get along… if the older one does a dominate move on the puppy…. grab her by the scruff of the neck and say ***Knock it off*** assuming she knows those words… hahahhahaa
Good Luck It will be SEW easy hon…

Likely the easiest way is to have them in adjacent rooms with a baby gate up between them. This way they can smell each other (scent is most important to a dog). When your older dog seems pretty calm about the new puppy’s scent, let them in the room together, supervised.
Because your dog is 13 and puppies are pretty trying to an older dog’s patience, you need to make sure your dog can always get away from the puppy when it becomes too much of a pest to her. A new puppy can revitalize her but she also needs to be able to get away.
Also, you need to pet, greet, and feed your older dog first – she’s the only used to be an only dog. Good luck with your new puppy!

Lock them in a room together with 1 piece of steak, they will decide the ruler and be happy or just kill each other

I have 2 jack russell terriers, they have been our only dogs for the last 3 years. We just recently bought 2 lab puppies. At first my jack russell hated the labs, we just left them in the pin together. Its been over a month now and they all seem to get along great! We didnt really DO anything to make them get along, we just let it happen.

Sorry to cross talk on the board here though I would not look to Cesar Millan the Dog Whisperer for advice on this one. Check out this free article from http://www.whole-dog-journal.com (I say it’s free because they have it posted as a sample article)http://www.whole-dog-journal.com/sample/…
I did some research on Cesar, and happen to agree on this one.

tie your bichon to a tree or something so it dosn’t move, take the pup in the back yard and let it sniff around letting your bichon c it then start to get them closer togther to smell one another dont let your bichon show any dominate actions like jump on the pup or stand up tall to it if it does then correct it make it sit, if it still does that put it in a submisive state, on its back and keep it there, if its submisive then it wont fight, it is acceptin the pup, once they start to smell each other take them for a walk togther, dont let your bichon have any toys because it will get ‘greedy” adn might fight if the pup smells the toy so wait for that, dont let them run around all wild when u first bring the pup or they will get too excited if you can have them meet with the fence gate between them then bring the pup into the yard.

Check out the dog whisperer. He might seem a little weird at first- at least I thought so, but his tactics do work.
