How Do You Prevent Accidents Around The House?

I have a 4 1/2 month cockapoo and as long as I’m well trained, he doesn’t have any accidents, ie. I take him out frequently enough. So how can I be sure he’s safe to go to other people’s homes and know to go to the door to go out?
When he’s in his “room”, he knows to go to the door but when I’ve let him out around the house, he “forgets” and does it right there.
So it’s frustrating as I’d like to have him with me around the house but can’t when he just does it without running to the door to get let out.
Any suggestions on how to get him to connect that going inside is not good and that he should run to the door? I know he’s on the young side but how do you train this anyway?
Thanks.

I hung jingle bells down low from our back door handle. Everytime I put our puppy out to go potty, I took her paw and rang the bells. She quickly learned to ring them herself and I can hear the bells from anywhere in the house. She rings them whenever she needs to go out. You could even take them to a friend’s house and hang them and show her where the door is and retrain her there by ringing them and putting her out to go potty. We also crate trained our dog and she loves her crate now, so I put her in there when we leave the house and at night when we sleep since those are times she might have accidents and I don’t want her to relieve herself in the house. Hope this helps!

He’s awfully young to be reliable yet. I would recommend crate training.

still too young to be reliable,, i have also heard that these mixed breeds are notoriously hard to housebreak, as the backyard breeders/millers have not reared them properly
