I very recently adopted a cockapoo from a family that had to move. So far she is great and already well trained. I read some info about the “breed” but was wondering if anyone has further info or experiences to share about this particular type of dog. Her physical features are almost completely cocker spaniel. Any real info would be helpful.

I had one when I was really small. They are great dogs! She had no health issues. Once I let her eat a whole M and M bag and she didnt get sick (I was only 3, I had NO clue what I was doing). Dont do that though. My sister (5 at that time) pushed her off the slide (By this time she was blind and half deaf). She flew done it then walked back to the stairs of the slide and sat down, wanting another turn! They are very tolerant (as you can tell) and are very playful. She was stolen near yr 17. We never found her again.
I had a black and tan Cockapoo named Coco. She was absolutely the smartest dog I ever owned. She lived to be 14 years old. One thing is that she had a lot of ear infections, so it’s important to keep their ear canals clean and dry, especially after a bath. She also developed some hip problems in her later years, but I’m not sure if that is breed related or not. Because she was so smart, she tended to be a bit stubborn and carefree. She was a great escape artist and tended to run whenever she got the chance. She loved to howl or “sing”. She also had a few skin related problems. I would recommend using a non-detergent shampoo on her and keep her groomed. They tend to shed a little bit also. I recommned Cloud Star Shampoo and Creme Rinse: http://www.cloudstar.com/products.htm
Coco was a real joy and had a very sweet disposition. She was not aggressive at all to dogs, children or adults.

Well, I have had mutts all my life and have found them to be great pets. With training they can do amazing things! Obedience classes are very helpful, they teach you how to train your dog. Also teach some tricks, it keeps the dogs mind active and keeps her from getting bored…
cockapoos are great dogs. they are sometimes hyper like spaniels and have the water instincts of one. but they do like to be babyied @ time because of the poodle in them
Well, my Aunt and Uncle had one, he died at the age of 13 years old I believe. He was a GREAT dog! I loved him so much. I would be glad to answer any of your questions that you have about them! You can email me at: pethelper4@yahoo.com! thanks, and good luck!
I don’t have a cocker spaniel/poodle mix but my friend has one. She’s one of the sweetest dogs I’ve ever met. She loves everyone and goes crazy licking you. She looks more poodle though. At over 10 years of age, she still is in great health and looks young! Since this is a mixed breed, it’s hard to predict what their physical appearance.
You have to watch for allergies/ear infections.
We have a cockapoo that comes to the doggie daycare where I work. He is *very* smart, and picks things up quickly. On the downside, he manipulates his owner because she often gives in too easily on training. He knows that if he holds out for just a little bit, she’ll cave in before he has to. Clever little snot. =)
