We moved ours around alot...at night we put in in our room...if we were watching TV, we'd put it in there....I think being near us, helped her get aclimated to it...she never felt secluded. When he gets a bit older its best to have it in a seperate room or a secluded area so if they want a time out or you give him one, the dog wont be disturbed. Once he got used to the crate, his whining stopped. If you put it in your bedroom, the dog may whine more (as mine did) because it knows you're there and wants to get out to be with you. That's why I would recommend that it isn't in your room. It is also helpful to drape a towel or dark blanket/sheet over the front of the crate at night. This helps them feel safer.
