I think that you should get another dog.
I have some dogs and in those dogs are a bichon poo, a bloodhound and retriever mix.
The blood hound just turned 1 and he is the biggest baby ever! So sweet! He is so tender toward everything, some horrible person dropped off 3 puppies and the blood hound took to them like a big brother. He is very curious. I always go for afternoon walks and he sometimes jumps the front yard fence and he finds me. That is cool. He is not the smartest crayon in the box. Once he gets out of the yard he can’t find a way back in. Sometimes when he runs he doesn’t stop right off and he runs into ya. So if you want a loveable, funny, slobbery dog get a blood hound. I love him!
I also have a retriever mix. I know that it is not a full blooded one but I thought that I would fill you in a little. She is now old around 10 and she is not as young as she once was. But she is so sweet. As long as she knows you. She is the top dog in our doggie pack. She would protect me from anything. (saved my little sister from a frog once, my lil sis is scared of frogs. ha ha ha) But she is easy going, laid back, obedient. She was my first dog, I love her!
It just depends on the dogs personality really.
The thing about another puppy is it can be a handful.
The thing about an adult is it might get annoyed easily at the younger one if it’s very playful.
I’d say go for a girl since you have a male but
really it’s just about the dogs personality.
I have two male puppies [they are twins] and one is shy and one is outgoing..one is the dominate but it doesn’t bother the other.
good luck!
The breeds you listed are a big difference from a cockapoo, a large adult dog could scare your puppy and there might be instances of the larger dog stepping on the smaller one.
Golden Retriever are a very nice breed but they can be a big handful and hard to train.
A Labrador Retriever is a great choice, mine are part lab and part chow. Labs are very sweet and are known to love the water.
A bloodhound is adorable but can get huge!
I don’t know how much time you have to spend with your dog…but, most dogs really love being the only one. Like I am a mother of an only child–he loves being the only child and our dog Simba-who was unrepentantly became paralyzed last year and although everything that could be done…would not have changed the outcome..we had to put our baby down. My son and Simba were best friends and brothers. If one got a toy, so did the other if one got in trouble so did the other-because as boys do they like to rough house. Your dog may enjoy playing with other dogs..but he may not want a full time partner. If you do get one, a girl would be best and please get them BOTH FIXED………I rescue animals and when a rescue dog came in..Simba was glad to see it go even though he liked them.
I think a golden retriever would b good and an adult one would b good too. You shoudl probably get one thats already potty trained and is obedient too
I KnOW your best bet is to rescue (http://petfinder.com or http://1-800-save-a-pet.com ) and to get a girl. Girl dogs with boy dogs are usually better behaved that two boys dog would be together.
