How Can I Convince My Parent6s To Get A Dog?

me and my boyfriend plan on renting out my basement from my parents next year. (its not crap really nice and its gonna be like we have our own apartment but with some benifits of borrowing everyonce in a while.) our family had a dog for 15 years. I dont ever remember not having rudy around. He recently died around christmas time. I want to get a new one to help out with the stress thats on ym parents. They said they dont wanna clean up all the hair because we have two cats already. I was looking for a way to convinve them to let me get a dog. also I need to know what type of dog to get. I need one that wont shead, one that most likely will be found in a shelter around south east PA one thats hopefully is easy to train and dosent bark alot.
I also wanted a dog because i need to loose weight and a dog would make me go and take my walks every day. thanks for your help
