When Should A Dog Be Put Down For Being Vicious?

My good friend was out of town over the weekend. She had a dog sitter come by to feed and let the dog out. He apparently didn’t latch the fence gate well enough and the dog got out. The dog ran at a neighbor who was walking her two small cockapoos in the street in front of the house. The neighbor picked up her two dogs to protect them. One of the cockapoos was bitten. The neighbor was scratched. It sounded as though my friend’s dog was pretty aggressive. The dog sitter successfully got the dog back behind the fence after it was all over. My friend’s dog is 7 years old. She’s a golden lab/chow mix. Are there other ways rather than putting the dog down that you would recommend to ensure the neighbor’s safety if the lab/chow were to ever get out again? Electric fence? Muzzle? Socializing training? Other thoughts? Is the lab/chow too old for re-training?

i have a two year old cockapoo and he attacks me when i punish him. he is a dominant male that is fixed. he has a potty training problem, ive worked with him since he was eight weeks old and he is still not housebroken. he is crate trained. i correct him by either smacking him on the butt or yelling at him(verbal commands, bad dog ect.) i havent let him get away with much without a punishment. he attacks any dog in sight and doesnt like little children. his attacking has gotten soo bad that i took him back to the breeder for advice. she told me when he attacks me i should grab him by the scruff and put him on his back until he calms down. ive tried this but after he calms down and i let go he attacks me again. he can be a nice dog sometimes. ive taken him to the vet and there are no health causes. please help!!!

Dog Aggressive When Putting On Leash?

My 4 yr. old (Cockapoo) dog has always been tempermental. We tried obedience training when he was younger and he bit the trainer. In the past year, he has become aggressive when going to put his leash on and will go to bite whomever is trying. Unlike our other dog, he hates walks, so he doesn’t go with often. I need some suggestions on how to rehabilitate my dog. How do I get him on the leash again without getting bit?
He gets kennelled several times a year and I think that is where the problem started. He needs to get kennelled in a week and I need to try to elimnate a 1 hour battle to get him on a leash.

When Does A Puppy Grow Out Of That “puppy Phase”?!?

I got a puppy and she is 8 1/2 weeks old. Please answer this question: If she is constantly and properly trained, when will she grow out the phase that I can only explain as “the puppy phase”. I love her and am being nice but adamant about rules. Don’t worry, Im being nice :) I’m 14 and we’ve had 2 other dogs but this is MY first dog so I have to care for it. I would love for her to stay a puppy forever but I can’t put up with this craziness for too long! lol
So again: She is a 8 1/2 week old Cockapoo, (half poodle, half cocker spaniel) puppy. (named Ginger – the movie star!) If you’ve seen Gilligan’s Island you’ll know that reference :)
When will she grow out of that “puppy phase”?

Why Would My Dog Suddenly Try To Attack Another Dog When He Has Never Done That Before?

We were at Petco with our dogs (6.5 mth olds Pepper-cockapoo, and Bandit-lab/pit mix) walking around enjoying ourselves when we go to turn down an isle and there is a man with a full blooded brindle pit bull and a smaller baby pit bull in a buggy. The man’s pit bull sees and and tries to head down the isle towards us. He wasn’t growling or barking or anything. He was just pulling his master trying to get down the isle.
Bandit (lab/pit mix) suddenly puts the hair up on his back and starts growling and showing his teeth. He was very agressive and he isn’t like that. We have been to Petco before with him. He takes training there every Tuesday. There is even an agressive Rotweiller in our class and he isn’t even that way with him. He has been around other dogs outside of Petco. We have an older pit bull down the road, 2 austrailian shepherds, and a border collie, and he has never been agressive with any of them.
He has been food agressive at home, but only with Pepper, never us. But then he and Pepper will share the same water bowl at the same time and he doesn’t have any problem with that.
We immediately pulled him away from the situation and scolded him. I have never seen him act that way to another dog. So does anyone have any ideas what could have been going through his little (well, not so little since he does weigh 45 lbs) mind when that happened? I would appreciate any help or suggestions.

My Chihuahua is 4mnths old{hell b 5mnths on the 17th}, hes currently on puppy food
My moms Cockapoo is 2 years old and is on adult food {obviously} but she, the cockapoo, is on beneful and my dog is on Purina cuz thats what the breeder used. He barely eats it and always tries to sneak and get her food and will sit in my bed with his stomach growling to high heaven but will NOT eat his food {i leave it out all day incase he gets the urge}. It is soo rare he does. My uncle breeds and trains Jack Russles and said not to switch him to adult food till 6 months but i want to know if its true for all breeds or if maybe it varies breed to breed. Any constructive advice is deeply appreciated.

How Can I Get My Puppy To Stop Crying When I Am At Home During The Day?

My husband and I have a 9 week old Cockapoo. We have had her for about a week. She sleeps through the night in her cage without crying and she is mostly potty trained, but she is very clingy during the day. We play with her a lot, and she is never home alone. If I go more than a few feet away from her, she cries very loudly, especially if she can’t get to where she sees me. When we ignore her, she just gets louder and louder until the neighbors complain. I have had a puppy before, but she didn’t whine all of the time like this one. I’m not exactly sure how to deal with this, but I want to make sure I have a healthy, well-adjusted dog. Any tips would be appreciated.

How To Kennel Cockapoo When I Have Company And Have Him Not Be So Loud?

My dog is a pleaser and is kennel trained. BUT he NEEDS to be apart of everything! If we run out to the back yard, he barks up a storm. If I run my daughter to school, he will poop in the house. I can’t leave for 2 mintues without kenneling him. We take him alot of places, and he loves being apart. BUT I can’t even run the garbages outside without him barking SO loud all the neighobors can hear it and he spazs out. If I have company over that doesnt’ like dogs, I kennel him and he barks So loud the whole time I have comapny and we can’t even talk. He NEEDS to be apart of everything. I spray him with water when I have company if he is kenneled. Nothing. I get a cup of water and dump it on him, nothing. I have him totally soaked (water DOES work when he is not so wound up). Than I feel mean because I am QUIET and have totally soaked my dog in his kennel, how do I get him to just BE QUIET and be good when kenneled and I am still in the house (he is quiet if we leave)?

When Crate Training A Puppy, What Do You Do When He Won’t Accept The Crate?

I am housebreaking a 12 week old puppy using the crate training method. He hates the crate and immediately starts whining, worrying, clawing at the door, etc. He is normally a very calm and contented puppy. What can I do to make this more acceptable to him, both for housebreaking and for other times he needs to be crated? We have not put him in the crate for more than a few minutes at this point, because he is so incensed about it! If it has any bearing on your answer, he’s a cockapoo.
