I Need Advice With A New Dog?
Filed under Care & Training Q&As
i lost my dog, bichon frise, in august. he was around most of my life and it was hard on everyone in my family. anyway, my sister got a kitten in september. he’s good and he is used to dogs, but he still gets afraid. we watch my neighbor’s dog when she goes away. she comes to our house and she gets hyper sometimes and when she runs, the cat goes running upstairs and hides. also, another dog came over our house, a small yorkie and the cat was swatting at him, haha. he’s declawed, but still he probably could’ve have beaten him up! anyway, what kind of dog should i get? i need an easy to train dog, im planning on getting one this summer, i will be working, including everyone else in the house. i wanted to get a cockapoo, they seem like nice dogs, but i don’t know anything about them. we are going through a breeder because my mom is afraid to go through an adoption place, we know people who have gotten dogs and they had problems with them. we found a place that is good, does not over breed and takes good care of the dogs. what kind of dog should i get in my situation? easy to train, good with cats, not mean or anything?

My family is getting a puppy tomorrow. It’s a 7 week old cockapoo.
The reason I’m posting this in adolescent, is cause I want answers from people my own age, not answers ‘dog training experts’ will give me.
Stuff like, don’t leave your (something random) laying around.
So, teens, any advice?

I Need Help With My New Puppy!!!!!?
Filed under Care & Training Q&As
I am sitting here about to burst with the frustration….
My dog is a poop machine on high. She poops every 1hour on the hour and I’m going to die if I have to clean up another poop or puddle. Okay……
I take out my puppy and she pees outside and then poops so I give her a tiny treat. Then she comes back inside and I put her in the lundary room (I put her in there when I can’t watch her, totally puppy proof though. I think she likes the smell of the clothes.) I come back 15 minutes later to take her out again and she beats me to it everytime!!! But she is very nice because sometimes she leaves me a poopy surprise to. I am getting so sick of cleaning after her, she is just untrainable! I have trained 2 dogs before her and they were angels. (I got them from the same breeder too). Here is her schedual….
I wake up and change her training pad because she poops on it every morning.
Take her out
Clean the room
take her out
clean the room, etc.
She is a 8 week old Cockapoo…. HELP!!
Can I Train My Dog With Bacon?
Filed under Care & Training Q&As
I have a 7-8 month old cockapoo, he’s really sweet sometimes, but most of the time he’s very controlling- probably because we weren’t consistnet when we trained him when we first got him.
Now I’d like to train him to sit, stay, and come but he doesn’t respond to dog treats, he likes them, he’ll eat them, but he doesn’t come running when you call him. I used bacon yesterday and it’s worked wonders, he comes right away and stays for MINUTES before he breaks focus…
if he get a little less than 1 piece a day is that going to hurt him? He’s very active, and my kids play with him for about 1-2 hours a night at least, plus a 30 minute walk… is bacon a good training tool? If not- do you think he’ll like beggin’ bits? (my previous dogs did NOT, but they liked milkbones…)
Crate Training With A Blanket?
Filed under Care & Training Q&As
I recently got a 10 week old Cockapoo and made the mistake of letting him sleep with me instead of in his crate. Well, I realized that when I’m staying with a friend for a week, he won’t be able to, so I decided to make him sleep in his crate. When I put him in his crate, he whines SO much. I know I’m supposed to just let him whine, but I can’t! So, I put a blanket over the crate and he hasn’t whined at all! Is there anything wrong with doing this? I know this is the stupidest question, but this is my first dog so I don’t know all of the tricks
Thanks a lot!

I am taking care of a friends dog for a week. The dog (cockapoo) whines all the time, and pretty much does what she wants. The owners obviously, never trained her.She pulls at the leash when we walk.I give her boiled marrow bones to keep her occupied, but that only lasts an hour or so before she is back sitting at my feet and whining.I take her out every few hours,so her whining is not that she has to go.Help,it’s only the first day,and already she is driving me crazy.Any suggestions??
I Have A 7 Year Old Cockapoo With Aggression Issues. I Have Tries Everything .?
Filed under Care & Training Q&As
Behaviorists, medications, training etc. We adopted him 3 years
ago. Essentially, he bites under ciertain circumstances: If we try to
take away something he has that does not belong to him, he’ll growl and bite. He will do this when he is resting and doesn’t want to be bothered. We have learned to manage the situation in that we know the circumstances where he will bite and we avoid these situations.
We tried prosac which turned out to be a disaster, he became more aggressive, we’ve gone through the whole training/behavior modification stuff which has helped but there does not seem to be a way to keep him from biting permanently. The vet/behaviorists tell us it is genetic and we just have to manage the sitiuation. Is there anyone out there who has tried something different? He is a great dog 95% of the time but his aggression limits us from allowing him to interact freely with other people. My husband is apprehensive around him and all in all, the situation is not ideal. HELP!
