Why Does The Media Portray Pitbulls As Bad?

we currently have 2 pitbulls and a cockapoo and let me tell you they have a ball. people base their beliefs on a story they heard. i recall last year a pitbull saved a family from their burning home and the media would not mention it was a pitbull.. why do they do this? u can train any dog to be agresive just like u can train people! it is the owners fault not the dog. some pitbulls are used for narcotics & even for therapy.. did you guys knew that even hellen keller has a pitbull, i was suprised that hardly no book mentions that she had a pet and IT WAS A PIT! lol
the dog from the lil rascals, Petey was a PITBULL.. u think if they were soooo aggresive they would have them around kids for such long periods of time
pitbull was used in the Disney movie Homebound…
list goes on lol some of you folks can be so ignorant lmao

Pit Bulls are just the media’s monster-of-the-moment. GSDs were in the same position in the 80’s and Dobermans were also media victims in the 90’s….now, it seems to be the Pit’s turn.
The media portrays these dogs this way because society views them as agressive animals, and because people simply love gore. I have seen quite a few “Pit Bull Attack” reports where the culprit was NOT a pit bull….but the media will label any agressive dog with a blocky head as a Pit Bull because it sells.
As pittie owners, it’s our job to try to educate people where we can about the true temperment and history of these dogs (the original ‘Family Breed’). Take your dogs out in public, introduce them to people, let people see that they are not the monsters the media makes them out to be.
If you change one mind, you’ve done your job.
ban the people who give these dogs bad names not the dogs Tsunami is my Pitt and she is wonderful with my children and other pets as well she follows my children around everywhere especially riding their bike if a car comes she barks she even keep one of my girls from being bitten by a water moccasin until my husband killed it (it was six foot)
she is brave and loyal too all of us. even one of the men who reads our meters who is scared and hates Pitts has no developed a new understanding of the bred and is getting one for his self and children (he’s done the research)
Because BYB don’t take care of them right and then they go out and hurt someone and that’s how they get the media attention they do.
It seems that now its the Pitbulls time to be on the vicious dog list which makes really bad people want them for a status symbol. It’s those people that give all pitbulls a bad name.
In time it will be another dog breed getting the same reputation as the pitbull has right now and that the Shepherd got, the Rottie got and the Doberman Pinscher got.
They are awesome dogs just some of them have a horrible upbringing.
Here is a big contributing factor: Animal Rights groups, whose ultimate goal is total animal liberation, DON’T WANT animals to be used as food, in clothing, for service, in entertainment, or as PETS. They begin by banning certain breeds. They show one pitbill bite and say the entire breed is like that and gets the media to portray just that. They instill FEAR into people. They purposefully omit that the owner was training it to fight, or abusing/neglecting it. The animal is NOT the problem, but irresponsible owners, and ignorant people who believe all that the media says, which in turn gives these animal rights groups, such as PETA and HSUS, the ammunition to pass these breed specific bans. They lobby to ban one species they portray as dangerous and move to the next breed once the law passes and so on. My good friend has a pit bull and she is the SWEETEST dog you will ever meet. I have seen maltese dogs more agressive that pit bulls.
There is an organization you may be interested in http://www.uappeal.org . Although they lobby more for exotics, there are members, such as myself, that have helped in fighting animal specific bans, mandatory spay/nueter, etc for dogs.
because of stupid people starting all their crap about pitt bulls my son has 2 and they are just as sweet as they can be. it isnt the dogs that are bad it is some of the so called people that train them to fight to the death and they should be locked up
ban the deed not the breed. its ppl who make them aggressive. but it isnt just pit bulls its other breeds as well. i kno they portrait pittys, but i have an american pit bull and she is the family dog. she may go after the cats but she doesnt try and hurt them she just wants to play. she is unaware she is what she is, cuz she thinks shes a lap dog..
must dogs that attack people that make it on the news unfortunately are pit bulls, because they have been trained to fight. so uninformed people feel all pitbulls are fighters. chows have a bad rep. rotts have a bad rep. lots of big dogs have bad reps they don’t always deserve. fact for all these uninformed people the most likely dog to bite you….cocker spaniel.
