Why Is My Dog Peeing On Brand New Carpet?

We have a 1 1/2 year old bichon cockapoo. He has been house trained for quite some time. We just bought a new house and he started peeing on a brand new area rug in our living room. We removed the rug completely (ceramic tile underneath) then he started peeing on the new small rug we have by the stairs. We have carpet throughout the house but the two matching rugs are the only thing he has peed on. What is going on? Is it the texture of the rug? Maybe the color?

Your dog is marking new territory. Making sure that he is the kind of the new carpet! It is the odor that is new and therefore something different that needs to be marked. Males are the worst with this! We have a male and female and we still have to keep an eye on male when he goes in an unfamiliar room – like our bedroom because he will try to mark the sides of our bed LOL! Just keep him away from the interesting odor or watch him carefully and correct him with a good “NO” when you see him doing or getting ready to do the deed! Good luck! If that doesn’t work – move the rug!
You should probably discipline him and say “No, no!”
My puppy still uses the potty on our carpet, and he can’t stop, we can’t figure out why. Maybe if it becomes more excessive, put him in his cage and say “Potty outside, no no no!”
In some cases, if it gets worse, Wal-Mart and most pet stores sell formulated cleaners for when he/she uses the bathroom inside, you can squirt some on the spot he/she used and place a damp rag on the cleaner. (Do NOT wipe up the cleaner!) The bottle will normally be labled “it will stop your pet from going in the same spot!”
If you are worried about ruining your carpet, it is completely optional to use the cleaner. I have a dark off-white colored carpet, and it works fine. Hope I helped!
I think that this is because he was used to that spot on the floor , and then a whole new series of scents came up when he got to that rug so he felt like this is Territory that he needed to mark as his , My friends dog did the same when they got a new couch , and a new carpet
yeah, hes probably just marking his sent..i dont know how many tiems this happend if it was only once…then he was marking…if he did it more then once…then it could be the cleaner you use….some chemicals in cleaners trigger dogs scent and they wanna mark them..i cant remember what chemical it was in the cleaners tho…hope this helps
It’s because it doesn’t have his smell on it, so he feels as though he has to mark it. Dogs will also do that with new furniture. Good luck
Maybe it’s because his scent isn’t on it anymore because it’s a different house and he might be marking it
Either he’s marking his place or he has a bladder infection and needs to go to the vet.
hes marking his territory.
since they are new they prolly dont have his smell on them yet and hes marking his area
he probaly is marking his terioty becuz its a new carpet
marking his territory.
when u buy something new your dogs tend to pee on it to sho its theirs
He is “house-trained” only for the last house that you lived in. You’ll need to start over in this new house, but don’t despair because it will go faster this time. Supervise him 100% of the time and do not allow him the run of the house. Use a crate or babygate him into the kitchen if you can’t watch him. Make sure he knows how to signal to tell you he needs to go out. Dogs do not generalize well, so you may think he’s house-trained in every house when he only knew that skill in one house. Pick up the matching rugs and don’t put them back down until the house-training is done. If he’s peeing by the doors, it means he doesn’t know how to let you know he needs to go out.
